What do Bees eat?
October 09 2024 – Honey Store
Bees need a balanced diet like all living things. Nectar provides carbohydrates for energy and pollen provides protein and essential nutrients. It is all collected by forager bees and shared with the entire hive.
They collect nectar from flowers, plants and trees. In the hive nectar is stored as honey and shared with the colony. Since honey is made from the nectar of your local surrounding plants it is a great aid for allergies. Exposing yourself to tiny amounts of these plants can desensitize your body to the allergic reaction.
Pollen is also collected and taken to the hive. It is rich in minerals, vitamins and antioxidants and provides bees with Protein. Pollen can be a great source of nutrition for humans as well. Benefits include: anti-inflammatory, immune boosting and providing the body with vitamins and minerals.
You can help bees by planting flowering plants and trees.
